When we talk about typical job responsibilities and duties of a Data Analyst, there are basically two types of these professionals; one who work with databases and the data entered in there and the other who work with internet to collect and analyze different types of data for evaluation of certain points. In either case, the key responsibility of a Data Analyst is to get certain type of data, interpret it, understand it, make it simple so it can be used out of context and make it helpful to understand certain factors about it.
You can understand the importance or work of a Data Analyst by knowing that these professionals work in all kinds of organization and government agencies. From a simple department store that wants to know how many hours’ employees put in work and when did it make highest sale around the week to a domestic company that wishes to go global and wants to understand needs and behavior of their targeted population to an online shopping store that wants to find out from where there most of the sale is coming and if people are actually responding to discount coupons and gift vouchers or not. Although there are other people and professionals involved in the work but at the end, it all comes down to the Data Analyst who works with the data and by making it simple, presents the results in front of the client.
Important tips to create Data Analyst Resume:
There is no such thing as a generic resume which in simple words means that when you apply for a job, you need to customize the resume and craft it according to the job you are applying for. If you have applied for an IT trainer in the past, that same resume won’t do the work for Data Analyst’s position. There are dozens of formats of resumes in the professional field and each one of them is only suitable in a certain situation. You can’t use the chronological format if you don’t have any experience and if you have it, you can’t use functional resume.
Functional resume is only for those who don’t have any work experience or can’t explain their previous work history so if you have good experience, use a combination format or chronological resume. It would be better if you can keep the resume to one or two pages but when it’s not possible and you need more space to discuss your credentials, make the first page as an executive summary part of your resume followed by 2-3 more pages that include brief details of headings that you put on the first page.
Do’s and Don’ts of Data Analyst Resume:
If the recruiter wants the references, he will provide such requirement in job advertisement. If there is no such requirement from the employer, don’t add your references in the resume or a statement i.e. references will be provided on request. Make sure to use more bullet points than dense paragraphs that are difficult to understand and read.
