When anyone needs assistance from the government department, he makes call to local police department such as 911 in America and 1122 in Pakistan. The person at the other end of the line who receives the call, talk to the people in trouble and gets them necessary help is the dispatcher. Dispatcher is the person who decides what kind of help a caller needs and where to get this help from i.e. petrol unit, ambulance or fire brigade.

Job responsibilities of a dispatcher:

  • The most important duty of a dispatcher is to receive the phone calls coming for help
  • Getting necessary information about the caller
  • Assessing the situation of each particular caller and helping him to get through that situation

Although the dispatcher is like the most important person in getting help or rescue services to the people in trouble but when it comes to the income or compensation, most government departments don’t think of the dispatcher as that important person in the system. This is the reason that most of the time, only new employees are hired on this position and after a while, when they learn the stuff and have the necessary skills, they get promoted to higher positions. Usually a dispatcher earns around $40000 per year with regular salary and if these employees are hired on hourly basis, they get $8-$12 per hour.
